Arkansas State baseball picked up the 10th commitment of the Mike Silva era on Thursday when Lee Summit, Mo. LHP Jake Riggin made his pledge.

Riggin, who also plays for the Sticks organization, spoke with Red Wolf Report about his commitment, and why he picked Arkansas State.

“Arkansas State was kind of the perfect storm,” said Riggin. “It’s a great place, and the new coaching staff seems awesome. The facilities and development were my favorite part though.”

Riggin said that he had looks from numerous schools.

"I got looks from a bunch of schools in the Midwest, a few Ivy Leagues, and North Eastern schools as well,” said Riggin.

Riggin said he really likes new Arkansas State head baseball coach Mike Silva.

“I think Coach Silva is a great coach and a great hire for A State,” said Riggin. “He has a history of winning and that’s the type of guy I want to play for.”

Riggin credits the Sticks organization and Chase Brewster for helping him navigate the recruiting process.

“I joined the Sticks this winter and I can’t understate what the Sticks and Coach Brewster have done for my career in the last 6-7 months,” said Riggin. “I love that it’s given me the opportunity to play in national events with and against the best players in the country.”

He also spoke about his goals now that he has committed to the Red Wolves.

“My goals are to be sitting 89-91 when I step on campus,” said Riggin. “Once I get there I want to play in a regional while I’m there.”

Chase Brewster, owner of the Sticks organization, gave his thoughts on the type of player Riggin is.

“Jake came with us to MLK in January and was really good. Threw the breaking ball for a strike whenever he wanted, and located everything well. That made Coach Raffo and staff offer to him originally, and Coach Silva was a fan as well after he took over," said Brewster. "Jake’s best days are ahead of him, and with Mike (Silva) being a pitching coach I know he’s excited to have a strike throwing left hander who teammates love to be around”
