The Red Wolves eSports teams are on the way. Expected to make their long-awaited debut in the new school year, this will make the second university in the state to have gone full eSports.
Armed with a top-100 player in the WORLD in Rocketleague, the school set out to accumulate as much information as it could about how to properly undertake bringing esports to the university.
The Red Wolves have decided to apply for membership and join NACEsports , the leading collegiate competition governing body over intercollegiate scholastic esports. There will be varsity competitive teams across all titles that NACE schools play, with notable titles such as Super Smash Bros., Fortnite, League of Legends, Madden, Rocketleague, Hearthstone, Apex, Overwatch, and more.
Once membership into NACE has been successful, the club hopes to join other collegiate pro leagues too.
Eventually the school hopes to follow the other club sports that became competitive nationally, such as rugby and cheer, and have scholarships available. The university hopes to help players compete at the top level, and even go professional by getting picked up by a team. Official jerseys have already begun to be manufactured.
The school will also use also available resources when broadcasting tournaments and events. That means the renowned media department amongst other options will be in play, such as players who have streaming equipment etc.
The university has also prepared and made an official Twitch account to stream from, as well an official YouTube that content will be posted to.
Officials have also been narrowing down locations and areas to either make into the official esports facility for the team to use. Also, official equipment ranging from PC’s to other miscellaneous gaming gear needed has begun to be brought in. Only the best equipment will be provided for players to practice and play on.
A discord and group in the official A-State app have been made for players that will go active in the coming weeks. This will serve as the medium that they can be reached at. Tournaments, practices, events, and all things important will be posted in there. More info will be emailed out before the next meeting, which is targeted for the week of April 22-26.
