Red Wolves take down Stephen F. Austin, 59-49

Arkansas State secured a 59-49 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at First National Bank Arena.

The Red Wolves, now 3-1, forced 16 turnovers and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds, limiting the Lumberjacks to 31.5 percent shooting from the field and just 3-of-16 from beyond the arc.

The 49 points allowed was the fewest since December 1, 2022, when they held Mississippi Valley State to 38 points.

Stephen F. Austin narrowly won the rebounding battle, 46-45.

Taryn Todd led all players with a season-high 21 points, making 4-of-5 from three-point range. The senior guard also contributed four assists, six rebounds, three steals, and a block.

Kobe Julien added nine points and a season-best nine rebounds, six of which were offensive, along with two blocks and three steals.

Sophomore forward Rashaud Marshall also collected nine rebounds, seven points, and two blocks. Julien and Marshall combined for 11 of the team's 19 offensive rebounds.

The game began with Stephen F. Austin taking a 5-0 lead before Julien hit a three-pointer to narrow the gap to 5-4. Arkansas State took a 23-17 lead after two Todd three-pointers capped a 7-0 run. Stephen F. Austin tied the game at 23 before Arkansas State closed the half with a 7-1 run to lead 30-24 at halftime.

In the second half, Arkansas State extended their lead to 11 with an early 7-0 run, though Stephen F. Austin tied it at 37. Todd and Terrance Ford Jr. combined for three consecutive three-pointers to extend the lead again, and Todd's three-point play made it 53-41 with under five minutes left. In the closing minutes, Arkansas State maintained their lead with key scores from Julien.

Arkansas State will host Lane College on Friday, November 22, at 7 p.m. at First National Bank Arena. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
