As the Arkansas State Red Wolves prepare the open the 2020 college football season they will do so against a stout Memphis Tigers team at the Liberty Bowl on primetime television at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

As we prepare for the game TigerSportsReport.com publisher Brian Moss answers five questions about the Tigers as the Red Wolves prepare for battle against a team they consider a rival.

1: What is the biggest strength of the Memphis football team?

Moss: Depth. For years the Tigers lacked depth but now it is truly a strength. They have recruited well for the past 7 years and have the house build and the foundation is solid. Memphis fans no longer have to pray everyone stays healthy for every game. They have the players that are ready to step up and step in.

2: What are the biggest weaknesses of the Memphis football team?

Moss: The unknown. There's a new head coach, a new defensive coordinator, and some new assistants. Since the media was not able to watch practice, there's no true way to say what this team is lacking. On Paper they are solid. Can they come together quickly under this new staff? We'll find out.

3: We all know about Kenneth Gainwell opting out. Who are any other stand out running backs to watch for?

Moss: I mentioned depth earlier. Running back is a spot where they are 4 deep. No one knew who Kenneth Gainwell was at the start of last season. He only emerged when Patrick Taylor got injured. The first back that they'll use is Rogrigues Clark. Clark, 6-foot-0 200 lbs., is a lot like Gainwell but packs a more powerful punch. Former 4-star Asa Martin transferred from Auburn and will get some playing time. You'll also see Kylan Watkins and Cam Fleming as well.

4: What does Memphis feel is the biggest challenge the Red Wolves will present?

Moss: Arkansas State has 2 quarterbacks that can give Memphis problems. The Tigers have had problems stopping a dual-threat quarterback. If Memphis can't get any pressure on Bonner or Hatcher then this game will be closer than what many Memphis fans think.

5: If Memphis is to win this game, what must they do to get the victory?

Moss: To me, it all starts with the Tigers defense. They are switching back to a 3-4 under new defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre and they look to be aggressive and will try to set the tone early. The Memphis offense will still clicking with Brady White returning. The offensive line will have some new starters but they all have game experience. If Memphis can set the tone early on defense and the Tiger offense wear down the Red Wolves then I see them coming out with a win. Arkansas State is good enough to beat Memphis, the Tigers would do well remembering that and take this game seriously.
