Senior defensive end Bryan Whitehead has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Whitehead wreaked havoc throughout a 27-20 win at Georgia State that clinched bowl eligibility for the Red Wolves. Whitehead was credited with a career high five tackles, including a career best 3.5 TFLs and a career best 2.0 sacks.

He also forced the first fumble of his career and added a quarterback hurry. According to PFF, Whitehead had four total pressures and all five of his tackles were stops, a tackle resulting in a failure for the offense. He earned an 88.3 defensive grade by PFF.

A-State (6-4, 4-2 Sun Belt), bowl eligible for the second consecutive season, returns to Centennial Bank Stadium Saturday to host ULM (5-5, 3-3 Sun Belt).

Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM with the game broadcast on ESPN+.
