ASUs Aplin Named to Manning Award Stars of the Week List

JONESBORO, Ark. (9/12/2011) - Following his performance in Arkansas State's 47-3 victory over Memphis Saturday, Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin has been selected as one of eight quarterbacks from across the nation to be named to the Manning Award Stars of the Week list.
College football fans can go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 9 a.m., the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Player of the Week.
Aplin completed 19-of-21 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns in the victory over the Tigers. His completion rate of 90.5% was the second highest in school and Sun Belt Conference history and he topped the 200-yard mark in passing for the 12th time of his career. Aplin's third touchdown against the Tigers was the 27th of his career, which moved him into fourth-place all-time at ASU and his 71-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Josh Jarboe in the second quarter was the longest of his career. His passing efficiency rating of 174.11 ranks him 11th nationally through two games this season.
Aplin's 274 passing yards were gained in just over two quarters of play - he played only the first series of the second half before retiring for the night, and his 274 passing yards moved him into sixth-place at ASU with 4,392 career yards. The junior from Tampa, Fla. helped guide ASU to 611 yards of total offense, which was the seventh-highest in school history.
Aplin was named to the list along with Tennessee's Tyler Bray, Iowa State's Steele Jantz, Washington State's Marshall Lobbestael, Stanford's Andrew Luck, Arizona State's Brock Osweiler, Oregon's Darron Thomas and Brandon Weeded of Oklahoma State.
