Arkansas State baseball (21-31-1, 7-21-1 SBC) was unable to snatch a win in the doubleheader against ULM (24-30, 10-19 SBC), falling by scores of 12-4 and 6-1 on Friday afternoon at Lou St. Amant Field.
Max Charlton (3-4) made his seventh and final start as a Red Wolf in the second matchup, surrendering two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings pitched. Wil French led the team in hits, going 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored.
GAME ONE
Walker Williams took the mound as last night's contest restarted with one out in the eighth inning. Jake Haggard scored two on a single up the middle while a bases loaded walk and wild pitch capped off a seven-run inning for the Warhawks.
The Red Wolves were unable to respond in the ninth, falling by eight runs in Game 1. Zach Shaw (1-1) earned the win while Arlon Butts (3-2) took the loss.
GAME TWO
Wil French led off the opening frame with a triple before scoring on an RBI-single from Jared Toler in the next at-bat. ULM would respond in the bottom of the third, using an RBI-knock from Easton Winsfield to tie the game at 1-1.
Neither team would score again until the sixth when Shawn Weatherbee put the Warhawks in front with a solo-homer to right field. An RBI-single from Jake Haggard was complemented with a sacrifice fly from Marcus Aranda, putting the Scarlet and Black down by three runs. Michelle Artzberger launched a two-run shot past the right-field wall in the next inning to make the score 6-1 going into the final stretch.
A-State was unable to answer, falling by five runs and dropping the final series of the 2024 season. Chipper Menard (2-3) earned the win while Charlton took his fourth loss of the year.
