Arkansas State had 11 players selected to the 2024 All-Sun Belt Conference Teams, as announced by the league office on Thursday.
The Red Wolves had one first-team selection, three second-team selections, three third-team picks, and four honorable mention choices. Players were recognized from all three phases of the game, with four on offense, four on defense, and three specialists.
Senior safety Trevian Thomas made the first team after tying for the league lead and ranking third nationally with five interceptions. He led the nation with three interceptions on an opponent’s final offensive possession and ranked fourth on the team with 73 tackles, including 41 solo stops.
On the second team were senior offensive linemen Jacob Bayer and Mehki Butler. This is the second consecutive season with two offensive linemen on the first or second team, a feat not achieved since 2016 before the previous season.
Bayer, returning from an ACL injury, started the final 11 games and was the top-rated center in the league according to PFF. Butler started all 12 games at left guard and was the top-rated guard per PFF.
Junior wide receiver Corey Rucker also made the second team, with four games of over 100 receiving yards, ranking fifth in the conference with 78.83 yards per game.
On the third team were junior defensive end Bryan Whitehead, senior linebacker Marvin Ham, and sophomore kicker Clune Van Andel.
Whitehead led league edge rushers with 10 quarterback hits and ranked fourth with 35 total pressures. Ham had a team-high 90 tackles and added two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
Van Andel set a school record with 17 consecutive field goals made in conference play.
The four honorable mention selections were senior punter Ryan Heicher, long snapper Jack Bullard, star Justin Parks, and running back Zak Wallace.
Arkansas State, bowl eligible for the second consecutive season, awaits its postseason assignment. The 2024 bowl matchups will be revealed on Sunday, Dec. 4, after conference championship games.
