Two-Minute drill highlights Red Wolf workouts

JONESBORO, Ark. (8/16/2011) - A spirited two-minute drill to wrap up the morning's workout highlighted the Arkansas State Red Wolves' fifteenth practice of their 2011 fall camp Tuesday morning on the playing field at ASU Stadium.
The Red Wolves got the workout in before boarding busses for Memphis to spend the afternoon visiting Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

"After having two-a-days yesterday and a short turnaround, I am sure their bodies were sore," said ASU head coach Hugh Freeze. "But I thought they were energetic. There were some mistakes that we would like to have corrected at this point, but that is the case with any practice. The main thing was that I was proud of the way they bounced back from yesterday. It was a late night for them, but I thought they handled it well and came back this morning ready to work."
The practice session opened with placekicking work before transitioning to individual position drills. The Red Wolves also spent additional time working on the kicking game, focusing on kickoff returns and the punting game before closing the workout with the two-minute drill.
Junior quarterback Ryan Aplin led the first-team offense on three scoring drives during the two-minute session, using big passing plays to lead touchdown drives of 70 and 80 yards.
On the first possession, Aplin followed an 11-yard run by freshman running back Frankie Jackson with a 53-yard completion to wide receiver Taylor Stockemer, setting up a six-yard touchdown run from Jackson. Aplin completed the drive when he ran in for the two-point conversion.
On the next possession for the first-team offense, senior wide receiver Dwayne Frampton was on the receiving end of an 80-yard touchdown pass from Aplin on the first play of the drive.
Aided by a holding penalty on the defense on the first play of the third possession, Aplin took over at the 15-yard line and again needed just one play to find the end zone, finding running back Sherodrick Smith on the right sideline for the touchdown completion. After a false start on the two-point try, Jackson scored from eight yards out to wrap up the morning's practice.
"I think our PAT and field goals are getting better and better," Freeze added. "Our guys are kicking it though the uprights, which is pleasant to see. In the two-minute drill, it was good for the offense to get the big plays, but you can't give them up on defense. It started yesterday with our red zone offense work. The offense started to come alive a little bit and we are confident we can score points. Our defense has been taking it to us for most of fall camp, but we are starting to get some different things in now and some different ways to run it that may give them problems. It was great to see us throw and catch a little and make some plays."
