Arkansas State baseball (21-32-1, 7-22-1 SBC) held a narrow lead entering the final inning against ULM (25-30, 11-19 SBC), but the Warhawks recorded a walk-off base hit to seal a 7-6 defeat on Saturday afternoon at Lou St. Amant Field.

Dylan Heine made his 14th start as a Red Wolf, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four over 4.1 innings pitched. On the flip side, Jared Toler wrapped up his A-State career with a 5-for-5 performance that featured a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

After neither side was able to reach base in the first, Toler opened the second with a solo-homer to right center and put the Red Wolves ahead 1-0.

After another scoreless inning, a fielding error at third base allowed the Red Wolves to extend the lead to three runs in the fourth. Michelle Artzberger cut it back to one in the next frame after firing a two-run shot to right field for ULM.

Jayson Zmejkoski scored on a groundout from Matt Abshire in the fifth, tying the game at 3-3. A balk with two runners in scoring position allowed Shawn Weatherbee to reach home one inning later.

Cason Campbell put the Scarlet and Black back in front during the seventh with a two-run blast of his own. Toler capped off the top frame with his second RBI of the contest to make the score 6-4.

A wild pitch allowed Zmejkoski to cross the plate uncontested in the eighth, making it a one-run ballgame going into the final inning.

With two outs and runners in scoring position, Artzberger fired a grounder up the middle to score both, ending the game in walk-off fashion. Carson Orton (4-3) earned the win while Blaine Harpenau (1-1) took the loss as the 2024 season comes to an end for A-State.
