Coach Gus Malzahn and the Arkansas State Red Wolves just landed their ninth commitment for the Class of 2013 as Parkers Chapel (El Dorado, Ark.) athlete Philip Hay gave his verbal commitment.
Hay (5-11, 175, 4.47) spoke with RedWolfReport.com to give his thoughts on why he chose to go ahead and commit.
"Arkansas State is just a great fit for me," said Hay. "I love the school, I love the facilities, and I love Coach Malzahn. Who wouldn't want to play for a guy like him?"
"Other than that, I just didn't want to go into my senior season wondering where I was going to play college football," Hay added. "I just want to focus on having a good senior season. Arkansas State fit, so I decided to pull the trigger."
Hay said that coach David Gunn was excited when he called to commit.
"Coach Gunn was just as happy as could be," said Hay. "He told me that he was super excited and that I was a priority player for them."
He also said that he is now going to get to work recruiting for Arkansas State.
"I'm going to look and see who all they are recruiting and I'm going to do my part to help bring in more commitments," said Hay. "It's all about the Red Wolves now, and I'm going to do all I can to help make this a great recruiting class."
Now that he has committed to the Red Wolves, Hay said he can now focus on his goals for his senior season.
"I just want to be the best I can be," said Hay. "I want to get around 2,000 all-purpose yards, and lead my team to a state championship. I just want to do the best I can do, and be successful in doing so."
Hay also held an offer from Navy, and was named the 2012 ArkansasVarsity.com All-State Football Camp overall MVP.
