“I really like Coach Balado and what he is trying to do with the program,” said Wilson. “He was at Louisville and I really like what he did with Coach Pitino. For him to come from there and to have coached under Coach Pitino I saw what they were doing, and I feel like they can do that at Arkansas State.”

Wilson spoke about some of the particular things that he likes about Mike Balado’s coaching style.

“When they work out everything is at a high pace,” said Wilson. “I saw where one of my former teammate from Jonesboro Marquis Eaton is trying to become a leader. I saw that on my unofficial. I saw where Coach Balado was on him a lot, talking, coaching, and a lot of other stuff. He was just on them. He won’t let you slack off.”

As noted, Wilson is originally from Jonesboro, but he says that location didn’t factor much into his decision to choose A-State.

“I wouldn’t say that it played a big factor,” he said. “Of course I was comfortable with it being from Jonesboro, but I don’t think it really made a big difference. It was really just the coaching staff. That was it for me as a player.”

Wilson said he is preparing for several AAU basketball tournaments in the coming weeks.

“I’m playing AAU for the Houston Hoop Stars. Our first game is tomorrow night,” he said. “We are playing this weekend, then we go to Dallas next weekend for the Great American Shootout, then the week after that we go to Las Vegas for the Fab 48.”

He spoke about his goals for his 2017 AAU and high school basketball season’s.

“My goals for this summer is to keep getting better and working on my weaknesses,” said Wilson. “I just want to continue to get better and compete for a state championship this season. I want to go out of my senior year with a ring. I don’t have one, so that is a big goal of mine to get that done this year.”

Wilson noted that A-State coaches will be in attendance to see him play AAU ball this weekend.
