Eddowes Advances to 110-Meter Hurdles Quarterfinal at NCAA West Prelims

Arkansas State track and field's Colby Eddowes moved one step closer to the national stage on Wednesday night, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the 110-meter hurdles on the first day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.

The sophomore clocked a career-best 13.69 in his first-round heat, earning a spot as a time qualifier in the quarterfinal field of 24 runners. He will vie for one of 12 spots in the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday evening at approximately 6:15 p.m.

Willem Coertzen finished just outside of the top 12 in the men's shot put, throwing 18.31m (60-1.0) on his second attempt to notch a 15th-place result.In the men's 800 meters first round, Hannes Fahl placed fourth in his heat with a time of 1:49.12, finishing 27th overall.

Josh Jones saw his rookie season come to a close in the opening round of the men's 400-meter hurdles. The freshman ran 52.74 to place 40th overall.

Action continues Thursday, with Selase Sampram and Michelle Ogbemudia competing in the women's shot put first round, which is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start at John McDonnell Field.
