Arkansas State wide receiver Corey Rucker is one of 100 athletes named to the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year Watch List released on Tuesday afternoon.
The list was released by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) in association with the Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl Organization.
Rucker comes into the 2023 season with high expectations after transferring to South Carolina after a stellar freshman season at Arkansas State. He made the decision to transfer back after one season with the Gamecocks.
He suffered an injury that sidelined him during his season at South Carolina, which allows him to enter the 2023 season with immediate eligibility for the Red Wolves.
Rucker hauled in 59 receptions for 816 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2021. He burst onto the scene at Arkansas State as a freshman in 2020 with 16 receptions for 453 yards (28.3 YPC) and 5 touchdowns.
He saw limited action for South Carolina where he hauled in 1 pass for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Since 2018, the Comeback Player of the Year Award has recognized college football players from all divisions for overcoming injury, illness and other circumstances that kept them from competition.
At the conclusion of the season, a panel that includes college football writers, editors and sports information directors will honor three college football players as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
